ND District LYF selects PROJECT 24 as 2007-2008 Mission Project
There are approximately 32 million people living in Kenya, Africa.  It is estimated that there are 500,000 homeless orphans living in their midst that have no viable means of support.  These children are known as "The Children of No One."  These children are literally fending for themselves and have "no one." - no mother, no father, no uncle, no aunt, or cousin, no grandparent.  Several people from North Dakota have observed and witnessed the plight of "The Children of No One" and have decided to do something about it.  Thus the arrival of "PROJECT 24" - Orphan Rescue Centers which has a goal of building 24 orphanages that will provide daily needs for living - food, clothing and shelter - with access to education and a Christian environment for hundreds, perhaps thousands of home Kenyan children.  This project will receive matching funds and promotion from LCMS World Relief and Human Care.
Please make checks payable to the "ND District LYF" and send to Ethan Kitsch, Treasurer, 907 4th Avenue, Cando, ND 58324.

"Family to Family Connection" . . . Connect with another family from the LCMS!  Family to Family is designed to help nurture, uplift, and embrace Lutheran families across the Gulf Coast region.  Kathy Wendling from the Southern District Disaster Recovery Office (and Gathering District Coordinator Manager) is working to coordinate relationships between the families in the affected area and families around the country.  Here's how you can become involved in family-to-family care and service:  Each LCMS District has been assigned the care for an LCMS congregation of the Southern District. The list below shares the name of the congregation assigned to your District.  Once you identify your assigned congregation, learn more about individual families within that congregation through the Family Profiles listed. These profiles were developed by the family themselves and list not only basic needs and  information, but also share personal interests, special traditions, family devotional practices, and individual family activities.  Check out the website for more information. WHAT ABOUT "MySPACE?"  Teens, young adults (and unfortunately, too often, less savory characters) have started their own space on "My Space.com."  "Everybody's doing it."  But is it a good idea?  There was a very good article published in the February 14 issue of  www.thesource4ym.com  (not to be confused with our own LCMS www.youththESource.com )  Author Jonathan McKee offers some sound advice about "MySpace."  He starts by noting, "A decade ago I would have told you that if you wanted to get to know a kid, 'Go look at his/her bedroom.'  Now I'd tell you to look at their MySpace page.  MySpace is a porthole into the world of today's teenager and tween.  Should we look into this porthole . . . or swim away."
